Tips to score high in CBSE Math Board Exam!

  • Move step by step to build your confidence in the subject. Many students have a big fear of Mathematics in them. They are never sure while they are answering and have that negative feeling that whatever they are writing might not be correct. To overcome the fear of Math, the student should not jump to the next topic till he/she has a strong base of the previous topics.He/she should not really care what topics or chapters other people are doing.Every student has his/her own learning pattern and capabilities. He should only care about his learning pace.Never try to rush because others are ahead...slow and steady will win the race :)

  • Start with NCERT questions first: Please do not neglect your NCERT.It is 'the' book that CBSE recommends and the board paper will have questions based on NCERT books.Never try to look for guides or solutions-- A very bad way of studying Math.Try getting each and every question correct. If you are stuck somewhere , look at the examples given in NCERT.These examples cover almost all types of questions asked in the book. But if you still face problems, then your Math teacher or Math tutor is always there to help you out.

  • Remember your formulas -Write all your formulas in a sheet of paper. There may be more than one way to solve a particular question. If you remember all your formulas and know which one to apply when, you can save a lot of time by applying the formula that fits best to your question. If you find it hard to memorize it, just give it a reading everyday like while on your way to school or in your library period or whenever you wish to.

  • Reference Books : At least one good reference book is must for practicing a good number of questions.NCERT has good questions but they are not enough. For a student to be able build a good confidence in solving math questions on his/her own, he/she should practice as many questions that cover all the types. It may be difficult for the student to identify all the types, so he needs to take help of his/her teacher in covering limited but all types of questions.

  • Divide your time for different chapters according to your grip or understanding of the chapter, it's weightage in the exam and the time you have. For example, Suppose you find coordinate geometry difficult. And it also has lot of weightage from examination point of view, then first of all write and read all the basic formulas of the chapter. Then build your base of the topic by starting with basic problems.Give at least 1 hour every alternate day to this chapter by trying questions on your own (this hour doesn't include the time that you attend for this chapter in school or in tuition). If you get stuck anywhere...don't just move to the next topic along with the pace of the rest of your friends.Do get all your doubts cleared as soon as possible. The bottom line is that regular practice can easily help you master the subject.

  • Identify your best time to study (any subject). Some students are night owls and grasp things easily when everyone else is sleeping and there is hardly any noise around them but some might be tired by say 11pm and cannot really study efficiently during night, so they might prefer rising early say at 4 or 5AM.This is a fact that if you cannot concentrate well or are not able to grasp the chapter due to tired body and mind, even if you spend 5 hours studying, you might not be able to gain as much as by studying just for 2 hours at the time when you are most active and comfortable.

  • Complete your course well in time so that you have ample of time for revisions.Revision is must so that you just don't go out of touch with the old topics.

  • Take a break!! It is very important to maintain a balance of all the activities in your life.
I know the fact that students have to cover a lot of course and time is just too short.Plan your routine and you will experience the difference :)
